Little Mr. Will...

I am not going to lie I was a bit nervous, I flew home to Seattle to shoot a baby session by myself and I was surprised at the nerves tumbling around. I have become so used to shooting as a team, Kyle and I, that to be on my own was new and took a minute to adjust. I will admit when I arrived I was put completely at ease by the warm smiles of Brianne and Scott and the most adorable baby ever little Mr. Will..

Brianne and Scott met in junior high, we all went to school together and now these two adorable high school sweethearts are happily a married couple with a darling baby boy. Kids are a bit of a mystery to me, babysitting experience, nope, younger siblings, not so much, friends with kids, nada, I honestly don't know much about kids let alone babies. So I was more than excited when Brianne emailed me mentioning she wanted to do some family photos.

The day arrived and miracle of all miracles it was sunny in Seattle. I drove to Brianne's house and was greeted by her and Scott and met the man of the hour... Will! Will was a dream baby to shoot, in fact he was just a dream baby period. happy, giggly, cute, full of expressions and laughter, I was smitten with him. He was a little man in all sense of the words, he had action comics framed in his nursery, car mobiles, and a little truck tee to top it all off.

I had so much fun photographing the Prather Family. It's always great to catch up with old friends and meet the adorable little people they have brought into this world... I am so excited to introduce, Scott, Brianne and Will!!

Enjoy....

s28 & Facebook...

We went back and forth on the idea.. another cyber space community to be a part of. I thought to myself, first people emailed, then they Myspace'd, and now they Facebook.. I am somewhat astounded at the amount of cyber communications.. what about a phone call, the idea can seem so old school.

So the idea of a Facebook Page seemed to present itself as a precarious possibility wrapped up in a nicely purposed package. Precarious for a few reasons.. do we need another form of cyber communication? Is a fan page like creating a club? Do I get a cool membership card, a secret handshake, a password, whistle knock knock.. anything?! Nope, not so much..

However, after weighing the odds Kyle and I decided to go for it because the main purpose of reaching new friends and letting old friends know what Studio 28 is up to seemed to outweigh the precarious factors.. So here it is the Studio 28 Facebook Page.. and were working on the secret membership cards..

Keep an eye our for it..! Ha..

40 Years And Counting...

I know this doesn't happen very often, but today this is Kyle on the s28 blog for a very great reasons..

Last week my parents made a trip out from my hometown in Wisconsin to Huntington Beach for a visit. The first night they arrived they announced they wanted to hire Allison and I to shoot... not an engagement session (obviously), but an anniversary shoot!! In June, my parents will have been married 40 years and they wanted to do a couples shoot in celebration of this milestone. So last weekend we were lucky enough to get to capture two people in love after 40 years.

I think the best part of the shoot was how much fun we had. We laughed so hard we all came to tears when we told my mom, Shirley to pretend to wrap Norm, my dad in for a kiss, and she lassoed him in with her scarf and planted one on him. Wow.. A life lived together after 40 years of love, laughter and memories. It was such an amazing experience to be able to capture such a big moment in my parents lives.. and I love them for letting me capture some moments..

So here they are, my parents, my friends and my inspiration. Celebrating 40 years together next summer, Norm and Shirley!!

A Few Simple Shoots... Jami & Mark..

We wanted to try something new... Call it, "Poses and Interaction Class," hosted by Studio 28 Photo for s28 photographers. Kyle and I were the teachers as well as the students. The goal was to take away all the extras of a usual shoot and focus on the basics, us, our camera, and a couple in love. We chose a simple white seamless background because we wanted no distractions, and to be all about capturing the great moment between two people and nothing else.

The day arrived and Jami and Mark were willing to be our subjects for what we can call s28 class, and might I must say we had an amazing time. It is a completely different shoot when its just you telling the couple how to interact and that's it. It makes you think of more interesting and different poses, how to make them feel comfortable, and how to get great photos in a simple setting. We had a few challenges, the main one being lightening, seeing as we like to shoot with natural light as much as possible, so we worked our reflector like never before.

Overall we had a great time, learned a lot, laughed a lot and will definitely do this again. So here you have it... A few simple shots from s28 of Jami & Mark!

Inspiration... Inspired!

I have to come clean... I am a bit of a junkie.. there, I said it. I have a problem. I can sit and flip threw magazines and blogs ALL DAY LONG! I constantly have piles of magazines around the house that drive Kyle crazy, and no not because he has none himself but because I have stacks and stacks that I am reluctant to through away. Vogue February 2004 issue, yep got it, InStyle June 2006, check. Surfer, Shape, Vanity Fair, Glamour, Allure, Adventure, INC, Traveler, to name a few... I love magazines.

I can flip and re-flip constantly. What is the vein of my problem? I find various types of inspiration in all of them. I am drawn to images that make me look twice and then ask myself why do I love this image, and how can I incorporate it into what I do? It can be a fashion shoot from Vogue, an ad in Glamour, to the perfect Island shot from Tahiti in Surfer. I just find it all so inspiring! It transports me to that, "Wow I wish I was there," type of feeling.

That why I love photography... it allows me the ability to create those, "I wish I was there feelings," and my all time favorite... "Wow they look like they are so in love," types of images!!!

Here is a look at some of our current favorite inspirations. We have a ever growing pile but currently these are my favorites. They all make me look twice, look longer, and make me want to go out and be a better photographer..
